Farm Stay Experience In Otawara, Tochigi

Japanese people smell the yellow citrus fruit at the supermarket in the wintertime. It smells so nice. If you go to a soba noodle shop in the winter, you will see the this yellow citrus fruit called yuzu shredded or grated on the soba noodle. Another popular citrus fruit is sudachi, which is smaller than yuzu and has a green color.

Citrus fruits are found fresh in Japan throughout the winter season. Typically, it is the skin of yuzu that is used to add flavour to various dishes such as vegetables, fish or noodles. Dried yuzu powder is the main ingredient for togarashi red pepper, and togarashi is Otawara’s local specialty.

Just an hour away from Tokyo – experience rural tourism in Otawara, Tochigi. Stay at your private traditional Japanese house with your friends.

We were pleased by the freshness and the quality of the food in the countryside. However, we enjoyed the conviviality of the locals just as much, while having all the comforts of being at home. This is a trip worth going on again in the spring or summer.

Yellow-orange YUZU is so beautiful at colorless winter time.

Picking YUZU at Host family YUZU farm.

I picked them up around 6PM just before the dinner cooking and bath time.

I picked up full of basket. Quite heavy.

I move with basket full of YUZU. YUZU smell moves with me. I can't hide myself.

This pretty small YUZU stay at my futon overnight. I slept so sound.
